An exclusive Short Game programme, designed exclusively for the Wessex Golf Centre
Developed to target only the essential short game skills needed by players of at levels need to save shots around the green and score better, more often from anywhere on and around the green.
Before any student went through this programme, I worked through all the details with the other coaches at the Wessex to be sure everything worked, the process and sequence is effective and adaptable for players of any standard.
We made sure:
What we learned:
There is no perfect length for each player and each element, some players may need longer on one area than another, this programme allows for this.
Learning is quicker when the skills are taught in a particular order, allowing skills to be learnt and layered on previous lessons, many aspects have similarities and crossovers. This programme optimises these synergies.
The Power of Testing ! Players are challenged and motivated by the testing assessments. The assessments allow for measured diagnosis of players current performance and opportunity for improvement. After the initial assessment, you will agree priorities and set goals for the programme.
What is covered?
Assessments " Before & After" testing
Putting, learn the 3 most important elements of good putting. Building a putting method and process suited to you. Putting is unique to everyone, there are some essential principles and fundamentals all good putters know, and you will be sure you include them in your putting.
Chipping - for many players chipping is their nemesis, frustrated such a seemingly simple shot can be so difficult to master. Not any more, you'll learn simple method you can use with many clubs, on many scenarios, allowing greater shot selection on the course. Trajectory and distance control are covered is detail.
Pitching, those short shots 20 - up to 50 yards, you'll learn an easy method which you can use with several wedges to give a variety of predictable distances. After just a single session it is remarkable to watch players play shots accurate to +/- 6 feet on demand.
Distance wedges, any approach shot 40 - 120 yards should be a scoring opportunity, a distance wedge swing is designed to minimise dispersion and maximise yardage control. This is the toughest section for many players, but by the end, it's worth it.
Bunkers, get it out each and every time, and then learn to control flight and distance. There are various whys to play out of the sand, and the reason so many players struggle is they are using a technique which doesn't suit them. You'll explore several methods until you find the one you can practice and master.
Assessment and Scoring. Measure progress, review strengths and weaknesses. On course scenarios, shot selection and decision making.
How will I know I've improved my short game? You will have an initial assessment and a re-assessment. These allow goal setting, data based decision making about targeting areas for the biggest scoring gains.
How many sessions? Typically 10 sessions, but additional session are included if required - my job is to help you become the best you can be at short game, I'm committed to delivering what you need, regardless how long it takes
Is each session an hour long? No, sessions can vary in length, we learned it is best to have various session durations to suit the learning process for each element and to allow players retention of new skills and knowledge. For example, a recent player required 2 putting sessions, each 45 mins long and two chipping sessions, the first was an hour, the second was 30 mins. This is not a cookie cutter, off the shelf programme, it is as unique as you are.
What do I get and how much does it cost? Your programme will cover all the essential short game skills, includes:
Total cost is £495.
(Wessex Golf Centre Members and Blue Light Card holders receive 5% discount)
How long does it take? It depends on the player and the time you have available to consolidate and practice between sessions. Plan on 15 weeks.
Can I do this with my partner? No. Each programme is unique for the player, group lessons have their place, but this is an exclusive experience and strictly 1 player only.
What if I pay double for two people? No, the answer is still no !
How much practice is needed? The more the better, but quality of practice trumps the volume. You will have a practice regime for each element, and after 4 or 5 sessions, this accumulates to a good amount. I discovered learning improves when the time between sessions is extended to allow for sufficient practice and consolidation of your new skills.
Is the learning supported? After each session you receive your summary of the session accompanied with video analysis and review.
Could anyone benefit from this programme? No, this is a serious commitment to your game, it is not a quick fix or magic bullet. This is solid tools and skills, this will help the dedicated golfer score better than you ever thought possible, but it requires application, practice and dedication. And if you have the dedication I will support you in achieving your short games goals.
